3 Top Tips for Page, Arizona

Ready to pack your bags and hit the road? Page, Arizona is one of the most naturally beautiful, inexpensive destinations in the USA. Begin your weekend escape by flying into Flagstaff, Phoenix, or Las Vegas. I assure you the long drive will pass by quickly with good company.

I stayed in Page, Arizona for 2 nights during a 5-night Southwest girls trip. I was amazed of how easy it was to reach the main sites, such as Horseshoe Bend and Upper Antelope Canyon.

The most wonderful time I had inside the canyon at Page HERE ARE MY 3 TOP TIPS FOR PLANNING A TRIP TO PAGE

RENT A CAR AND STAY IN THE TOWN

Page is basic and lacks charm but it’s the perfect home base for exploring the region. I stayed at the Hampton Inn & Suites Page – Lake Powell, which is right off Route 89. My King Patio Studio was newly appointed, comfortable, and perfectly clean. Stop by the Walmart Supercenter across the street to stock up on provisions. After long days of sightseeing I was grateful to come back to my room and make cocktails in the kitchenette.

All the main tourist sites are close by: 6 minutes driving to the parking lot for Horseshoe Bend, 12 minutes for Upper Antelope Canyon and Lower Antelope Canyon, and 18 minutes for Antelope Point Marina. The hotel concierge will provide you with a map and valuable advice. I highly recommend staying here for at least two full days.

In case you are looking for an ultra-chic, luxury resort the Amangiri, located 25 minutes northwest across the Utah border, is for you. Expect a hefty bill.

BOOK SLOT CANYON TOURS IN ADVANCE

It’s important to book slot canyon tours weeks or months in advance depending on when you visit since you must go with an authorized tour company and guide.

Book slot Canyon in advance since you must go with an authorized guided.

I organized my trip just 10 days prior to arrival and it was too late for an Upper Antelope Canyon tour reservation. This slot canyon is world famous for its light beams that appear during midday on clear, sunny days between April to September. If you are a serious photographer, I highly recommend that you schedule a photography tour. This will allow you to capture incredible shots and not feel rushed. There are a limited number of tourists per guide, and tours per day, so tours frequently sell out.

Lower Antelope Canyon in Page has a high demand. Pictures don't do it justiceSimilarly to Upper Antelope Canyon, Lower Antelope Canyon also has high demand. I was lucky to get a reservation to visit Lower Antelope Canyon during midday on the last Friday of September 2017 with Dixie Ellis’ Lower Antelope Canyon Tours. The canyon itself was beyond crowded but mesmerizing. Pictures don’t do it justice. I dream to revisit Page this September to explore more of its jaw dropping canyons.

PAGE: ENJOY THE GREAT OUTDOORS

Horseshoe Bend is a natural wonder that can be enjoyed without a tour guide. Leave your car in the paid parking lot and walk 10 – 15 minutes along a dirt path to the overlook. There isn’t any shade so please plan accordingly. I visited twice during my stay, at sunrise and sunset. It’s more peaceful at sunrise but sunset here is the clear winner. When I visited there was no parking fee and no fence around the perimeter of the sheer cliffs. These recent changes have been implemented by authorities for maintenance and safety reasons.

For an awe-inspiring afternoon, visit Antelope Point Marina. I loved my 1-hour boat tour down Lake Powell through the narrow canyon. If you are looking to hire a local photographer, I highly recommend reaching out to Jared Klain. His Instagram account, @jpklain, is full of National Geographic worthy images. I met Jared by chance on my last day in Page. He was the captain of my boat tour.

Other popular activities in the area include kayaking, paddle boarding, hiking, and aerial tours. Whatever you decide to do – I know you will love Page and its surroundings.
